Esca nods, still a little grave, and goes back to the seal stew. It has lumps of seal, a whole lot of barley, beans, and brassicas. Using stone bowls Esca finds behind a counter, he makes two portions for the both of them, and drinks from his bowl slowly without the aid of spoon. "It's good," he says. "Very good."
